Ice Flower

PICT0036cas

I remember a blogger mentioning how common it was to find an original Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress in thrift shops, and how you'll eventually meet the one that's your size. ( I forgot the source, sorry.) I thought, oh well, probably in the US... So I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this DVF dress in one of my favourite second hand shops!

One thing I always look out for when second hand shopping is materials I couldn't afford new, and silk is definitely one of them. A heavy silk jersey wrap dress, what else can you wish for for the winter? A pattern called Ice Flower, maybe. Which is what this lovely pattern is called, which I've found out after some online detective work. It makes me think of ghosts of jellyfish rather than flowers, but that's just my personal weirdness.

Oh, and it cost just the same as all the other, cotton or polyester, no-name dresses... After finding out how much these wrap dresses cost new, I'm really marvelling at my luck now!

This shot reminds me of the days I used to do Hungarian folk dancing, as this twirl looks just like a folk dance move!
I was just wondering how many time Hungarian folk dance and DVF was mentined in one page when I found this interesting blog entry of Diane's looking through the DVF website. Guess what, she visited Budapest in the summer! Really nice of her that she writes about her experiences and am I glad she liked my city!

Wearing: Second hand DVF dress, Calzedonia tights, Chinese booties,
Promod trench, C&A hat and scarf.

I've seen this before...

A new feature, yay! In this section you can click over to a previous outfit featuring certain components of the current one. (Gosh, that sounds businesslike!)
In other words, check out my remixes, girls. :)

Thick Jersey Silk? Now I HAVE to start looking for one of these dresses. I really like the pattern and I keep hearing that wrap dresses flatter everybody but I think I need to find a petite one, because I always feel like I am being swallowed whole in them.

Oh, you have a beautiful name then! :)
By the way, I always wanted to ask if it's a long accent or short, Ípek or Ipek?

Thank you, I might have gone a little overboard with them. :D

Thanks Kira!

I used to have this thing about wrap dresses, that if one fits my hips, they'd never fit my small chest. I even sew together a wrap dress once, to prevent it from opening on top. :) Turns out I was mistaken, this one is perfect!

Thank you, I was so happy to find it! It was one of those thrifting eureka moments. :D

Thank you! :)

Thank you Gracey, I wasn't sure about the all purple, but I have to admit I like one-colour outfits!

Thank you! :)

Thank you Lyddie! I tend to go match matchy with the colours, whether it's good or not, must be because of my traditional art education. :)

Half of what you said about this dress is Greek to me... I am assuming DVF dresses are good (which I will be looking into shortly) and expensive. And everywhere? I'm confused, haha. At any rate, I like your jellyfish ghost idea better than flowers, but I suppose ice flowers are nice. You're rockin' the treasure you found, that's for sure.

Great thrift find! Fits your perfectly!

And I agree with you about the print. Jellyfish ghosts for sure.

They're supposed to be a wardrobe staple (for rich people at least:). Similar ones go for 345 USD on Shopbop... Which sounds just... Wow! I mean if you own that much money, give most to feed somebody hungry and then go thrifting...
I got this dress for like 6 USD.

Thank you! I fancy the idea of jellyfish ghosts. Maybe I'll dress up as one for Mardi Gras. :)

It's such a great feeling when you find at second hand stores great pieces and stuff you would like to have but can't afford in real life! I can't remember the last time I went to one (my hometown and the city where I am living right now don't have second hand stores)! Your pretty dress just made me realize I need to go to Lisbon or Porto asap, so I can be happy at a second hand store!

Thank you!

Definitely! It's such a high when you find something great! :) It's like treasure-hunting, and sometimes you find the pirates' gold. :D
