Madeline and the Dreamcoat

PICT0047cas

The other day the snow was falling so gorgeously, I had to ask my sister Anna to go out and take some photos!

PICT0041cas

As you can imagine, I ran into a bit of a problem at the beginning of winter how to fit my growing belly into a warm winter coat... Second hand shops came to the rescue! I found this heavy, warm coat with the original 70s paper tags attached, and it's perfect for all belly sizes and it was cheap: win-win-win. And one more win for good measure. :)

PICT0035cas

We hung up the camera on a tree to take a picture of both of us, resulting in some fun tilted images. :D

PICT0092cas

In other news: It looks like Bobek might arrive soon! Yay! Exciting times!
So... don't be surprised if I take a few weeks leave of the blog. Not that I've never done that before without such a valid excuse. :)

scarf from an underpass, and I got the gloves from my sister for Christmas.

Painted Flowers

IMG_7257b_resize

These pictures were taken by Zsófi Raffay. She's an amazingly talented and what's more, a very lovely person. I'm so lucky to have had the chance to work with her as a stylist!
So when she offered to take some pictures of me (and my belly), I said yes of course, I'm bringing the cakes. :)

IMG_7202b copy_resize

It wasn't easy though to decide what to wear for my own shoot! I know you saw this dress before, but I like it too much. It's like wearing a painting.

IMG_7348b_resize

I know I will treasure these pictures for ever - reminding me of this weird, wonderful and truly blessed period of my life, with a very special guest residing with me at all times.

Do check out Zsófi's pictures if you wish to see great portraits and city photos,
and more... Oh, she has a blog too!

Atrium

DSC02975cas

The other night we visited a newly reopened cinema-theatre, the Atrium. Somehow the place itself turned out to be much more interesting than the play we saw. :)

DSC02926cas

The building was designed by Lajos Kozma and was finished in 1937, a simply wonderful Art Deco or rather Bauhaus building, the first one in Budapest designed specially to house a cinema. The metal structure underneath was something very modern at the time!

DSC02945cas

As many buildings in Budapest, it had an interesting history, though after some very eventful years before and after the war, including a stint as a slaughterhouse (!) when Budapest was under siege, it reopened as a cinema again. After it was bombed, a huge sign was put up saying: "People of Buda! Please bring a brick each to rebuild the Atrium! It's your cinema!" :)

DSC02983cas

Jump ahead a few decades and see Atrium slowly disintegrate as the years pass... It was closed for a good while, so the renovation process last year took months, but now the cinema-theatre almost looks like it used to in the 30s, a very special space indeed. It houses a theatre now but films are also shown from time to time.

DSC02938ca2s

We saw a Martin McDonagh play, The Lonesome West. Well, I wrote my MA thesis on Hungarian stage productions of McDonagh's Irish plays. I still think he's a genious, and I'm still happy with my choice of a thesis topic, so I just cannot give up watching them. :)

The same director had a previous version of this play on in another Budapest theatre, and actually I'd love to know why he wanted to redirect it again... Personally I thought it was better the first time around. Still, theatre is theatre and good plays are good plays, so it was great to go!

A few more details from the lobby...

DSC02947cas

The black and white are so striking with the orange... It's hard to believe how daring some of the 30s designs were!

DSC02978cas

I think these pillars are my favourite, with the interesting light fixtures... And all the mirrors... Wish I could see how the flats looked like above in the 30s! Someone planning on inventing time travel...?

Style Imitating Art - The Curator

PICT0024cas

My sister thinks this dress is something a museum curator would wear, so it's a fitting one to start a new project with!

I've been following Jess' blog, Animated Cardigan for a very long time now and she and a blog friend, Salazar set up the Style Imitating Art series, where they allow themselves to be inspired by a work of art they choose, and dress up accordingly.

PICT0020cas

This time the painting in focus was a Klimt piece, who I really really love, namely The Portrait of Emilie Flöge, so I decided to finally take part. :)

I wish I had a dress just like hers...
You can check out all the other bloggers and their inspired outfits at Salazar's blog soon -we're in very different timezones, so I guess a few hours after my post is up. :)

These rings are handmade by a friend of mine who I've known since we were both 6! She became a very talented jewellery maker specializing in enamel and copper. I've made the earrings. :)

Big News!

IMG_0386b

Here I am, again! And also somebody else... There are two of us on these pictures. :)
Yes, I'm expecting a baby! The Little One growing inside is now about four and a half months old, and causes me to marvel at the wonders of the world and just how lucky and blessed I am every day.

IMG_0368b

My mind is really occupied with it all too, so concentrating on blogging took a back seat in the past month, but I don't intend to give up my corner of the internet that easy!

I know full well it can feel painful to read about pregnancies for many women, for many reasons, so I definitely don't intend to turn this blog into a pregnancy one, however, as this is partly a personal style blog, the Bump will play an increasing role on the pictures, visually definitely! :D My body changes really fast and it took some time to get used to this, but obviously I didn't stop getting dressed - in fact I rather enjoy that I have to rethink my wardrobe for a new body shape.

So please stay tuned for more style and art, and I will try and not abandon my blog again for so long! :)

These great pictures were taken by Zsófi Raffay, when we were out for another photoshoot I styled for her - but more on that later!

(very uncomfortable to wear them like that though! :), Doc Martens.

Halloween-less

PICT0026c2s

We don't celebrate Halloween in Hungary at all - instead we have the Day of the Dead, but that is a very solemn affair, and definitely doesn't include dressing up. People visit the cemeteries, tidy the graves, light candles for everyone they lost... It's a sad but beautiful ocassion.

PICT0051c1s

These pictures were taken near to where I grew up, and that strange ball thing is supposed to a fountain that I never saw working, not even when I was five and climbing up to the top of it was the achievement of the day. :)

Although I didn't have the ocassion to dress up, my sister Anna, while taking the pictures pointed out I look like I'm cosplaying something - must be because of this overdress. Not what I intended, but you can't really escape looking a bit theathral in it! (If that's a word.)

In other news I'm growing my hair again, as my Boyfriend keeps hinting at how nice long hair is, (oh well, at least I gave short hair a try!) so be prepared for some weird transitional hairstyles in the coming months! :)

Heels, Check!

PICT0144pc2b

Wearing: Thrifted dress, Accessorize hat with old scarf, Invázió shoes.

These shoes are just crazy. I'm pretty sure they're deadstock from the 90s, got them brand new last week (and they had a whole range of choice in sizes) for 300 Forints, which is less than 1,50 USD. They are so terrible they crossed the line into cool.

However, they are also very very uncomfortable, so even as I tried them on I envisaged a great DIY project where I can actually cut out pieces from them and assemble a totally crazy bunch of objects to stick on the remaining surfaces...

The actual heels are chunky and curved, sort of Miu Miu-like, so done up, these beauties - or rather beasts -  could be great for future crazy photoshoots!

Splash

PICT0124pc

After yesterday's black and white set, here's a splash of colour!
Wearing: Tamaris mocassins, Invázió leggings, Orsay dress, H&M belt and flowers.

I've been meaning to tell you about this sweet giveaway I won at a blog I really really like! I don't know if you know Kittenish Behaviour, but it was one of the first blogs I've ever started reading - and never stopped. Purdey has superb writing style and her adventures in dating and living in London are nothing short of amazing anyway! :) I won this great assortment of things, which she actually sent me twice as the package was returned to her the first time around! I love the creams and glosses, and been enjoying making a huge mess with the nail art pen, as I can't seem to master the art of it, haha!
Thank you again, Purdey! :)

When It's Sunny, it's Divine

PICT0025cas

Ah, in the sun, Devon is at its best!

PICT0004cas

What could be better than a cool day by the sea, with some cake and long walks, sometimes barefoot in the juicy-fresh grass?

PICT0018cas

Nothing really!

PICT0023cas

Also, some cool rock-climbers told me my outfit was "wicked", and the lady selling strawberries said "I love your colours, my dear!". Clearly I had to force Marco to take some pictures of me after such success! :D

Aaaand... Rewind to Spring!

PICT0075cas

Oh, hello 16 degrees, tights and Docs, trenches and raincoats! I'm back in England! :)

PICT0067cas

Compared to Budapest's 36 Celsius, this Devon weather is actually rather lovely. And it's not only the weather that makes me happy here... I just love Devon and being together with Marco (my boyfriend) again!

PICT0074ca2s

Being near the sea is an absolute dream, and I still love running into the ice cold waves then warming up with a cup of hot chocolate...

PICT0010cas

We actually ran into a music festival as well, which was fun! We realised something was going on when the bus we took to the beach started to fill up with teenagers wearing wellies. And I mean every single girl wore wellies. It was rather suspicious, so my boyfriend turned to this guy who got on with his (wellied) girlfriend, and proceeded to ask: "Why's everyone in wellies for?"
Which is a rather ridiculous sentence, if you think about it! :D

PICT0065cas

So that's how we ended up at a music fest!

In Green Hues by Zsófi Raffay

IMG_0161cs

I'm blown away every time by Zsófi's photos, and I'm so lucky to work with her! We met up with a client of Zsófi's who would like a portrait shoot of herself, which I'm really looking forward to. She's such a sweet girl and styling her will surely be a pleasure!

We got there earlier and Zsófi snapped a few pictures of me with her newly aquired objective from an old camera.

IMG_0156b_resizes

These fuzzy pictures are my favourite... I thought if we're doing something out of focus, it would look good if I twirled... And proceeded to do so for the next 6 minutes, which was rather exhilarting, but absolutely worth it! Aren't the pictures just dreamy?

IMG_0130b_resizes

Here I am in all seriousness. I wanted to emulate the below photograph I found on Fortepan.hu, but forgot how the girl sat exactly...

fortepan_6990s

She also snapped a few pictures in a newly redecorated Art Deco style shopping centre from the early 20th century, which now has a huge antiques strore on the top floor. Such an atmospheric place with huge windows!

IMG_0184bs

It's always a great experience to be on the other side of Zsófi's camera. If you ever feel like some brilliant pictures, look around on her facebook page, and do order a session with her! She works in Vienna and Italy too, apart from Hungary. Oh, and if you ask for styling, you'll meet me too! :)

Wearing: Invázió tee, F&F skirt (Tesco value, hehe), H&M belt,
earrings bought at a design market and crafted onto a clip-on by me.
I also wore green tights and a black pair of shoes you can't see. :)
