Yellow and Brown Set

Another rainy day... In between two rainshowers the best thing you can do is to wear yellow!

Here's another set I've made last week, in brownish-yellowish colours. I decided to wear them with something relatively simple, as I guess the two pieces together are a statement enough! Of course I couldn't resist throwing in a pair of coloured tights...







































Isn't this thrifted bag cute? My Mum found it at our favourite second hand store - proof that all the inconveniences of thrifting that I wrote about are worth it after all!





















For some reason I lift my hand to my neck on almost all the pictures, and I have no idea why. The necklace holds up fine, one doesn't need to hold it in place! :)









































I'm definitely selling this set along with many others once the project I'm working on is finished, and I'll have time to set up the Etsy shop of my dreams! Next week! Exciting!

Illustrated Shoot - The Leprechauns Made Me Do It

Obviously they like pixies, so they persuaded me to get the new haircut. Altough I don't blame them at all, as I love it more and more. Drying my hair takes two minutes, and I don't wake up every morning with what looks like a stack of hay that was thrown at me randomly.







































I have a lot to thank the Leprechauns for, or Irish mythology in general, as I ended up at English major at the University I attended because of a really inspirational musician, who plays in an Irish band called Bran, who held storytelling evenings in Budapest. It turned out he has a lecture at my university every week and I decided it must be a good place if studying there involves Irish folk tales.







































So I proceeded with my Irish Studies and met my Boyfriend through it all, and we travelled to Ireland together... The Aran Islands are still my dream destination, a wonderfully magical place, where mythological creatures frolick around the stone fences, unseen but felt by the random tourist.





























I was gonna post these pictures somewhat earlier but fell ill so I couldn't finish the drawings till now - a bit of a belated St. Patrick's Day! I could just say it was because of the Leprechauns... Let's say it was. :)

 I thought three different types of lace would look good together, hence the all-black outfit. Hope you can sort of see!

Spring?

Scratch that, after a few clear days it's been snowing all day today again.
Winter is giving it one last try!




























But I'm wearing flowers and enjoying the unexpected sunspots on my pictures...
Spring will arrive eventually!






































This vintage leather skirt I picked up when one of my favourite second hand shops was closing down became one of my most worn pieces. As well as trasporting me to the 70s, it's keeping me warm while the last breath of winter lasts.





















By the way, at the moment the below picture is a much closer representation to how I actually look like when I walk the streets of Budapest... With an extra pullover and a huge scarf added. :)

Recolour

I asked my Sister to take some pictures of me so there is finally a change in the background! She took some great pictures - the only problem is that I was shooting jewellery in a darker corner just before and forgot to change the settings... So the focus and colouring of the pictures looks a bit funny but at least they are interesting. :)























The jacket I'm wearing is the one I've exchanged the buttons on back in December - you can read about this awesomely simple DIY here!







































This bag was my Christmas present from my Mum, and to put it simply, I'm in love with it. :) The handles are leather (as well as the adjustable strap, which I took off for now), and the bag has millions of pockets and it's colours are just gorgeous... The girl who makes them really pays attention to every detail and the bag is beautifully finished. A perfect example of how much joy a handmade item can give you... This bag is truly special and so much more personal than a mass producted bag with a brandname stamped on it.























Meet my good old sweater dress which I didn't used to wear for years because I was ashamed of my funny curves and here I am, not only wearing it in public, but also posting pictures of it on the Internet. Blogging can work both ways - it can make you more self-conscious about what you wear, but it also gives you more confidence, in your style choices as well as in the acceptance of your shape. At least that's how I experience it. What about you?

Illustrated Shoot - Hearts of Gold

It's rather nice when Mother Nature provides us with golden accessories - like these fallen leaves.

December is on the doorstep with the festive season setting in. Obviously we don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here in Hungary, but to all the US bloggers - have a great time celebrating! If I could thank you for anything, it would be your continual support of my little blog.

Towel Day for Hitchhikers

Let me prepare you for a shocking fact: I'm not a trendsetter.

These are the first pair of skinny jeans I bought. Yep, I warned you!
I just didn't warm to them for ages, and when I tried them on, I felt my legs are turning numb they were so tight - even in that two minutes in the changing room.
But a few days ago - drumroll - I found these in Takko, which is a shop for 40-something mums and their preteens, usually located beside hypermarkets. I'm classy like that.
Anyway, the main thing is that they are really comfortable - maybe because of the 40-something mum fit. They were very cheap too - to fit the budget of 40-something mums.
And mine.

So where does the towel come into picture, you might ask? Right here.

Chic? No. Flattering? No. Trendy? Maybe, if you colour block it...

But it's dead useful, just read it in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In this book Douglas Adams describes, among other very useful tips for space survival, how many things a towel can be useful for - May 25th, Towel Day, is the celebration of this wonderful and absolutely hilarious trilogy in five parts. (Here's the Wikipedia entry for more info on Towel Day - basically you need to carry a towel around. :) If you haven't read them, give the books a try, you won't regret it. Or watch the film - starring Zooey Deschanel as charming and funny as ever. Also, be aware that this trailer is not work appropriate - unless you don't mind laughing out loud behind your computer and having everyone stare at you.

Pálinka and Broderie Anglaise

What is pálinka? The lovely, fruity, rich and very strong national spirit of Hungary. Why is it so good? It's made entirely of fruit, and fruit, and more fruit. What sort of fruit? Any and all types, really, from plum and apricot to walnut, quince, and all the berries you can imagine. Why am I writing about this? Because this weekend the famed Pálinka Festival, where all the distillers present their best pálinkas, is held in the Castle of Budapest, and obviously we had to pay a visit!

My favourite type, the "ágyas pálinka" (fruit-bed pálinka) is aged together with fruits - even more fruitier! Here, I am tasting a green walnut pálinka... Look at the colour, enjoy the rich scent, then taste! Wonderful!

Good pálinka has a culture, just like wine. I never used to like alcohol, but gradually warmed to wine and pálinka, mostly because of the work that goes into making them. Hungary is not a beer country, but we're really very good at wine. And pálinka. :)

If you wondered what Broderie Anglaise is, it's the embroidery technique used on my blouse, involving cutting out the patterns from the material.

This blouse was made by my Mother when she was younger, using an old pillow case. Can you imagine the care that used to go into embroidering pillowcases? I'm so amazed by the detailing on this ex-bedlinen. It felt fitting to wear it to an event celebrating practically handmade drinks.

Easter Fish

We had a great Easter meal in of the oldest and most prestigious restaurants in Budapest, the Gundel. Now let me tell you all, that I'm not very likely ever to post pictures of my food. I've never had an urge to photograph what I eat, so well, you have to guess - my necklace could be a hint. :)

This dress is perfect for meals out, as you can eat your stomach as round as you want, the dress doesn't let it show. The drapey top is the sister of the purple one I wore previously here.

Time for another serious confession.
The kid (in the corner of the picture below) is not my son.

Bridesmaid Sandals

Wearing chunky green sandals, teal tights and a fringed bag. And a lace dress... Which, contrary to what it might seem on the pictures, is fully lined, girls! And boys! :)

As you can see, I love this bag. I have to admit though that my biggest love are the sandals.
They proved to be faithful friends through thick and thin - accompanying me to one of my best friends' wedding last May, for instance. I should thank her (Hi, Ildi!) for these lovelies, as she had the idea to dress her bridesmaids in green, and in the instant I heard this, I envisaged green shoes... And stalked them in Tamaris. Honestly, after seeing a picture of them on display, I kept pestering the shopkeepers about when they will arrive. I figured as I found a dress for the wedding for insanely cheap, I really deserved some nice shoes. :)

Dear Green Shoes, sorry for this picture, which really doesn't do you justice. I promise you will get your chance to shine another time!
